Tom Rand

Tom Rand is the Co-Founder and Managing Partner at ArcTern Ventures, an early-stage cleantech venture capital firm based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He oversees the firm's investment strategy, which includes managing a $335 million Fund III and previous vehicles backed by institutional investors like OMERS and Equinor. Before transitioning to venture capital, Rand founded Voice Courier Inc., scaling the interactive voice response software company to over 100 employees across three countries before its sale in 2005. He subsequently established the cleantech advisory practice at the MaRS Discovery District in 2009, where he continues to serve as a senior advisor. Rand holds a doctorate from the University of Toronto and has authored three books on climate economics. His current focus remains on providing risk capital to carbon mitigation startups across the clean energy, mobility, and circular economy sectors.
