Tim Jurka

Tim Jurka is a Polish-American computer scientist and political scientist specializing in artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms. He is best recognized for developing the core artificial intelligence systems that rank and personalize the news feed for LinkedIn. Prior to this, Jurka created the machine learning algorithms for news recommendations within the Pulse application, which was subsequently acquired by LinkedIn in 2013. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Quantitative Biology, and Bioinformatics from the University of California, Davis, where he also pursued a doctorate in Political Science. During his time at the university, he developed the RTextTools and MaxEnt text classification software packages for the R programming language while collaborating on research regarding media framing and civic engagement. Jurka maintains a specialized focus on advanced text classification, algorithmic news distribution, and computational political science.
