Marcus Ryu

Marcus Ryu is a General Partner at Battery Ventures based in San Francisco, California, where he directs early and growth stage technology investments. Prior to joining the venture capital firm in 2022, he co-founded Guidewire Software in 2001 and served as its Chief Executive Officer through its 2012 initial public offering until 2019. Under his executive leadership, the insurance software provider scaled to generate over 1.2 billion dollars in annual revenue and achieved a public market capitalization of approximately 20 billion dollars. Beyond his primary operational roles, Ryu has held independent director positions at numerous prominent enterprise software companies, including MuleSoft, Procore, Clearwater Analytics, Checkr, and Bloomreach. He holds a doctorate in philosophy and currently focuses his venture capital investment strategy on vertical enterprise applications, artificial intelligence, and financial technology startups like Coram AI and Fairmatic.
