Ikerlan

Ikerlan is a technology research center based in Arrasate-Mondragón, Basque region, Spain, specializing in electronics, information and communication technologies (EICT), energy, and mechatronics solutions for companies. The private not-for-profit center employs approximately 400 individuals, conducting applied research for product development from concept to implementation. As a member of the Basque Research and Technology Alliance (BRTA) and part of the Mondragon Corporation, Ikerlan collaborates with entities such as NASA, ISASecure, and Multiverse Computing. Its projects include AI applications in industry, quantum computer vision for manufacturing defect detection, and developing innovations like catenary-free trams for sectors including railway and industrial. Ikerlan was founded in 1974 by José María Arizmendiarrieta as part of the Mondragon cooperative experience. Its business model centers on private not-for-profit technology center funded through cooperative membership in Mondragon Corporation, research collaborations, and technology transfer services to industry.
