The Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) integrates data, analytics, and AI capabilities across the Department of Defense. It builds AI-enabled warfighting systems, like Swarm Forge, and intelligence tools such as Open Arsenal. The CDAO delivers enterprise platforms, including GenAI.mil, empowering personnel with modern AI for secure deployment.

Established June 1, 2022, the CDAO formed as a centralized Department of Defense entity, following a 2021 initiative. Addressing a strategic need to accelerate DoD’s data and artificial intelligence adoption, the office provides a unified transformation vision, recognizing AI's critical role in modern defense.

The CDAO serves the Department of Defense, providing personnel with critical AI and data platforms facilitating streamlined access and real-time decision-making. Vision is to ensure DoD maintains a decisive advantage by integrating AI capabilities, transforming deterrence, and fostering innovation for global challenges.
