Founded in April 2010 by Hao Sun, Daojia is an online food ordering and delivery service based in Beijing that connects middle class urban consumers with local restaurants through its mobile application, website, and call centers. The company successfully scaled its commission platform across major Chinese metropolitan areas like Shanghai and Hangzhou to serve over one million active users. During this expansion phase, the business established strategic partnerships with three thousand restaurants and maintained a proprietary fleet of more than one thousand delivery personnel. The enterprise secured fifty million dollars in a Series D funding round jointly led by prominent institutional investors JD and Macquarie Capital in September 2014. Subsequently, Yum China Holdings acquired a controlling stake in the platform in May 2017 to enhance the delivery infrastructure for its KFC and Pizza Hut brands.
